Even the most interesting projects remain inaccessible without a meaningful re/presentation. A new angle, a new interpretation, opens up new insights: novel depictions that go far beyond established illustrations.

Some paradigmatic digital narratives shall be shown here in this brief overview. They were developed in different constellations. The links provided lead to further details and full credits. For a complete list of works, please refer to richdank - the complete story.

ninety4

94 projects, 94 bubbles, 94 minutes
2021

Due to the Corona pandemic, the Kulturjahr 2020 (Year of Culture) and its ambitious program could not be concluded without a delay of several months. 94 invited project sponsors from the arts, culture and science organized almost 8,000 events around the themes Digital Life/Worlds, Environment and Climate, Social Interaction, Tomorrow's Work and Urbanism. In the end, the closing gala in September 2021 was staged and hosted by the Theater im Bahnhof.

The centerpiece of the eventually more than two-hour show in the Kasematten was the custom built auditorium with a projection surface that would essentially function as a stage. Within several weeks of planning and rehearsals, a continuously real-time calculated/rendered, high-resolution, vibrant backdrop (code named »ninety4«) was developed. And in the end there were more than 40 different scenarios, which not only visualized different aspects of the Year of Culture, but also interacted closely with the actors, the guests and the live music - a creative and technical challenge, which was also broadcast and is still to be rewatched.

Rhythm matrices
2015-19

Musical rhythms are structures, sequences of impulses and pulses arranged. Depending on the perspective, they can be regarded as spatial or temporal expansion. Multidimensional matrices based on the Time Unit Box System are most suitable for their abstract representation.
All rhythmic music has its foundation in a continuous succession of even energies. Musical creation begins with the subsumption into groups of numbers and their regular repetition. In European music they are called bars. The formation of the total quantity into divisive, uniform subsets is called meters - additive, odd distribution rhythms.

The generation, organization and classification process of an impulse/pulse-combination ends with the identification of the so called Grundposition (default position). In addition, algorithmic permutations, transformations, etc. are calculated. This explains the development of rhythmic sets down to the smallest detail, which can then be used as melodic or percussive patterns.
jam:be:at completes and extends the decades of research on rhythm done by Rudolf Derler.

Timelapse

Videoclips on architecture
2000 and ongoing

For exhibitions or lectures, for documentation or openings ... moving pictures move people!
Videoclips offer the exceptional possibility to show - and to see - architecture in another way. With the trained eye of the well-disposed observer, hidden aspects can be emphasized: temporal shifts, captured lighting moods, extraordinary viewpoints, with or without graphics, text, sound.

Particularly interesting are professional time lapse recordings over many years. However, in addition to high technical and logistical expertise, this also requires a special skill in compositing and post-production. Timelapse is a series of commissioned works about different projects of various offices, created with different partners for various occasions.
